The City of Oak Hill was incorporated in 1952 to maintain its residential character in the midst of expansion in post-World War II Nashville.
Entirely surrounded by Metro Nashville and Forest Hills, the city is near the Williamson County border.
Oak Hill is ideally situated near major commuting arteries such as Interstate 65, Franklin Road and Old Hickory Boulevard.
The city is governed by a Board of Commissioners, which consists of Mayor Thomas Alsup, Vice Mayor Tommy Jacovs and Commissioner Ray Throckmorton.
The city manager is Dr. William Kraus who returned to active government service after retiring to Oak Hill.
He had previously served in a variety of city management positions in California.
The Board of Commissioners must approve all budgets and major contracts as well as pass or modify all resolutions and ordinances that affect Oak Hill.
The city also has a Board of Zoning Appeals and a Planning Commission. Members of both boards are appointed by the mayor.
The city contracts and provides street maintenance and paving, monthly chipper service, twice weekly back door trash pickup, snow removal and right-of-way maintenance.
The Board of Commissioners meet at 5 p.m. on the third Thursday each month at the city offices, located just outside the Oak Hill city limits at 5548 Franklin Road, Suite 102.
